Jaguar World Monthly October 2002

Independent Jaguar specialists Michael Ferrari and Wyn Thomas put on a great show recently at this year's JEC Essex region day.

The Epping-based company had an array of quality used cars on show, but the highlight was undoubtedly the Willow Foundation raffle. Wyn Thomas Servicing Ltd supplied a mint, low-mileage 3.6-litre Sovereign XJ40 for the draw. Tickets were on sale for the day of the show only, so it was crucial that people came by the stand.

The Willow Foundation is a charitable trust set up by television presenter and former Arsenal and Scotland footballer Bob Wilson. The charity, which has only just turned three-years' old, raises money to provide special days out for seriously ill young adults, between the ages of 16 and 40. The Foundation has arranged over 100 special days out, ranging from a front row seat at the British Grand Prix to a chance to meet top celebrities such as Michael Owen and David Beckham.

Bob Wilson was on hand for the whole day to sign autographs and to make the draw at the end of the day. With the help of Bob's wife Meg, Pan, the PA and loyal band of volunteers, the trust works tirelessly to arrange these 'dream days'.

Aside from the Wyn Thomas prize car, which was insured for a year by Footman James, there were autographed football shirts up for grabs and a signed football. JWM supplied a year's subscription and a copy of our brand new book XJ40 Engineering, which were presented to the winner of the car. The lucky recipient was Alan Garner from Bishops Stortford. He said he was simply "Gobsmacked" when he was presented with the car, which had been freshly prepared by Wyn Thomas's workshop, managed by Wyn's fellow Director Michael Ferrari.

Despite some terrible weather the JEC Essex day was an enormous success and the Wyn Thomas/Willow Foundation raffle raised an impressive £2,200, which in one day is an impressive tally. Plans are now being considered for a similar draw next year. For more details on the Willow Foundation log onto www.willow-foundation.org
